Centennial Hall
Southampton, NY
The Southampton Hospital Foundation asked Flynn + Stott Architects and Pepi Design Group to design a Centennial Exhibition for their 100th anniversary. The design incorporates a photo montage, a compilation of photos, chronologically arranged from 1909 to 2009. At the same time, the clear plexiglass, representing pieces of time, describes events and people associated with the photos behind. On the opposite wall, are images of world events, and another layer, lettered on the soffit above the photo montage, describes important and relevant world events.
The exhibit was intended to be temporary, but it has become so popular that the hospital will be keeping it in place permanently. The installation was recognized for a special award for "Civic" architecture in an AIA Peconic Chapter awards program in September 2009. Further upgrades and improvements to what has been named "Centennial Hall" are in planning stage. |
