9/11 Memorial Garden
Farmingdale State University of NY
Farmingdale, NY • 2004

Our firm was announced as one of five finalists of a competition for the design and construction of a memorial dedicated to the residents of Long Island that perished during the attacks of September 11th, 2001. The memorial is to be constructed on the campus of Farmingdale University. The competition was sponsored by the Long Island Chapter of the AIA and the Long Island 9/11 Memorial Committee. Our proposal consists of 383 columns erected on the memorial site to represent the life of each Long Islander that was lost during the attacks. The varying height of each column represents the age of each victim. The victimʼs name, birthdate, and service organization will be engraved on the column so that visitors will leave with some knowledge of those that perished.
