Penna Residence • Carpot Addition
Hampton Bays, NY • 2003

The carport addition is a unique architectural design detail that spans the area from the main entry of this waterfront home to a storage structure. It’s roof is supported by a system of exposed paralam beams and rafters, cross-braced and enhanced by powder coated connectors and stainless steel rigging. A structural post at the entry integrates a built-in exterior light fixture. The roof is standing seam metal with a continuous polycarbonate ridge skylight. The new carport provides ample sheltered parking with convenient access to the front door in a style that is distinctive, innovative, and conjures the nautical rigging of passing sailboats, yet it remains consistent with the existing modernist structure. The interior renovations included a new kitchen, front entry, and enclosed atrium bridging the main portion of the house to the guest quarters.
